Yoga-H A
(Exercising Your Mind) I just finished teaching Yoga tonight (subbing for another coach) and it not only went very well, but for the first time ever, I felt extremely confident and comfortable with my method of teaching.
The best part about it is I could also sense (and was told) that my students tonight appreciated and was very relaxed by how I ended the session.
Instead of the traditional ‘corpse pose’ or chavasana that finishes most classes; I instead made a proposition – ‘chavasana? or guided meditation?
The meditation was selected by my partners and we grabbed a few seats, sat comfortably, and listened to a CD that I had recorded just hours earlier.
After 19 or so minutes passed we opened our eyes, and serenely made our departure after a short conversation about Hypnosis, Yoga, and the internet.
I am sure that somewhere not too far away,
other instructors have done, and are doing something similar.
For me though, it was a first; doing exactly what I wanted to do in that environment; what felt right to me.
To interact more and offer choices for something different, and that is exactly what my pal in the session thanked me for, offering something different.
The more personal ‘wins’ like this that I have each day, the more balanced my levels of exo- and endo- validation.
I tend to experiment a lot with everything. Once I feel I have put enough into following doctrinal study, practice and application, I add my own adjustments and share it with others as soon as possible.
This could be after one hour or one year later. It is this spirit of innovation that gets me into so much friction against the ‘traditional’ art and science communities.
Since traditionalists have defined their methods as the only way to discover truth, the only accepted modifications of tradition, are those enacted within the same methodological framework that tradition has established.
Tradition insists that only people who have been inducted into its community by way of training and credentials are qualified to make these adjustments.
I am not suggesting that you go set your own broken bones, but if its not so bad, why not?
After breaking my foot sparring and being told that nothing could be done except to stabilize it, I decided to spare my insurance company the blow and set the fractures myself.
Same with my hand that I broke some 10 years ago. My punches, kicks, strength, flexibility and many acrobatic movements have not suffered from my self therapy, rather only greatly improved over time as I grow older.
I admit I had been a certified professional rescuer as a Life-Guard for the Red Cross of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. where I learned first-aid, but certainly not a physician.
Our government sponsored school system teaches that there is a very particular paradigm that must be followed in order to ‘make-it’ or ‘survive’ in the ‘real world’.
This system imparts a certain definition of society and the physical universe through chronic indoctrination from many years of schooling.
We all have the spectacular ability to excel in whatever we choose; we can specialize or generalize to our hearts desire and content.
We must both offer something different to our brothers and sisters, and be open just as much to the unknown if we are truly to know our personal truth and evolve.
Remain interested, question things, practice, study, apply, share and teach so that you remain whole, and love life if this is your desire.
