Mystical Math: Numerology and the Commutative Law
Numerology and the Commutative Law
Mystical Math
By Hakeem Alexander
(Exercising Your Mind) Numerology is known as a Divination Tool. Divination tools like Tarot and Astrology are tools that supposedly allows one to decode and receive messages and information from the Divine, God, Gods or from the natural workings of the Universe.
It is believed that this information can guide you throughout your life and for making certain decisions.
In Numerology, the rationale is that every numeral from one (1) through nine (9) resonates with its very own characteristic vibration.
Some Numerologists say that there are only 9 true or core numerals, 1 though 9 and sometimes Master Numbers 11, 22 and 33.
This is because in Numerology all numerals are usually simplified or reduced to a single digit. Therefore, after 9, all of the numerals start the cycle again with 1.
You observe this cycle at 10 because 1+0=1; with 11 the 1+1=2, at 12 the 1+2=3 and so on. It is said that because of this recycling of a short list of only 9 core numerals, perhaps Numerology is one of the simplest Divination tools to learn and work with.
It is just one of many ways we humans can divine or reveal the wisdom of the Universe or Creator(s) by accessing the information manifested through numerals associated with our lives and world.
I have personally experienced some very interesting synchronicities or meaningful coincidences with numerals both before and since being formally initiated into the science of Numerology.
Numbers and Numerals
In case you want to be really technical about definitions, a numeral is the actual digit or symbol that represents the number, while a number is the actual quantity or amount of something.
Most folks however, do not use this distinction and it is probably not going to make much of a difference communicating your ideas through Numerology in most circumstances.
The characteristics of the numerals are listed here very generally as follows:
- Masculinity, creativity, leadership, starting new things. (Positron)
- Feminine, receptivity, cooperation, teamwork. (Negatron)
- Sensuality, sexuality, talkative, life of the party. (Gamma-ray)
- Hard work, stability, loyalty.
- Freedom, spontaneity, gifted with words, sudden change.
- Humanity, sophistication, peacemaking.
- Intuitive, discerning, psychic.
- Power, money, fame.
- Completion and resonates with characteristics of 1 through 8.
As I stated before, the list is very general. I adopted and adapted it roughly from Numerology for Beginners by Gerie Bauer.
I first read the book back in 2006 when a friend suggested I was already a Numerologist. This is because I would consistently use the Commutative Law of Addition to simplify groups and long strings of numerals and the alpha-numeric values of letters to single digits.
Since then I have been using Numerology as a fun self-hypnosis tool for myself and clients.
Other qualities of numbers could be
- Pioneering, independent, attaining, individual
- Adaptable, considerate, partnering, mediating
- Expressive, verbose, social, artistic, festive
- Foundation, order, service, steady progress, pushing limits
- Expansiveness, visionary, adventurous, constructive use of freedom
- Responsible, protective, nurturing, group-oriented, balanced, sympathetic
- Analytical, understanding, knowledgeable, aware, studious, meditative
- Practical workings, status conscious, materialistic
- Versatile, selfless, creative expression, charitable
In the Commutative Law of Addition, as with Multiplication, it does not change the sum or product of the equation, regardless of what order you make the calculation. Therefore, the Commutative Property or Law states that
a + b = b + a
or
a x b = b x a
For example when I simplified my address I lived at at the time containing the numbers 18433, I would add 1+8+4+3+3=19. Then I would add 1+9=10, then 1+0=1.
The final sum of 1 has the characteristics of masculinity, creativity, leadership and starting new things. It would not change the sum if I added 4+3+1+8+3, the sum would still be 19, then 10 then 1 when simplified.
For someone’s birthday on September 17th, 1977, I know that September is the 9th month.
Therefore, I add 9 + 17 + 1977= 2003. 2 + 0 + 0 + 3 = 5. The characteristic vibration of a 5 is freedom, spontaneity, gifted with words, sudden change.
This would be the so-called Life-Path numeral for this September birthday. Some people call this the Destiny Number.
However, I usually refer to the Destiny Number as the Numeral derived by the alpha-numerics of a person’s name.
In alpha-numerics, each letter in a given alphabet has a numeral value. A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on. You could also do this for the name of an organization or any name for that matter.
An example would be a company call Fox. F=6 because it is the 6th letter of the alphabet; O=6 because it is # 15 and 1+5=6; and X=6 because it is #24 and 2+4=6. So our Fox would be 6+6+6=18, then 1+8=9.
It would mean that Fox has the resonance of completion and characteristics of 1 through 8 also.
Fantastic Numeral Nine (9)
The number 9 has many very fun properties. When you add 9 to any of the numbers 1 – 8, you will always come back to the number 1 – 8 that you have added to 9. For example, 9 + 1 =10 and 1+0=1; 9 + 2 = 11 and 1+1=2; 9 + 3 = 12 and 1+2=3 and so on.
Also, when multiplying 9 by any other numeral, you will always come back to 9 by reducing the product with addition. 9 x 2 = 18 and 1+8=9; 9 x 3 = 27 and 2+7=9; 9 x 4 = 36 and 3+6=9.
Since multiplication is really just the operation of repeated addition, it also obeys the Commutative Law.
There are many more ways to divine information or play with number. You can determine the characteristic numeral vibration for each person’s year, month and day.
Numerology is an interesting Divination Tool whether you use it as a compliment to guiding your life or just as a fun arithmetic game to exercise your mind.
