Saved By Smoke: An Encounter With Shia Labeouf And His Graphic Novel “Stale N Mate”

An Encounter With Shia Labeouf And His Graphic Novel “Stale N Mate”

Saved By Smoke

On “May The 4th Be With You”, May 4th 2013, at 15:15 or 3:15pm, I was approached by what my eyes first suspected to be an exercise enthusiast who really needed a shave and my nose said he needed a shower.

Did he smell like he had been smoking cigarettes too? Yuck!

I do not like the smell of cigarette smoke or its residue at all. I used to be a smoker when I was in a Death Metal Band called AcrimoniuM in the 1990’s.

But I stopped smoking years ago. I was saved from smoke. Apparently Donal Thomas, the main character in Shia Labeouf‘s graphic novel has been Saved BY Smoke!

I was walking from Starbucks Coffee on Ventura Blvd. and Vantage to get some food from the Trader Joes down the street.

I was waiting for the guitar and musical phenomenon, Donald Dias to meet up with me since we had not visited with each other in some time. Apparently he was dealing with some issues.

Anyway, I am glad that I made the trip out to get something to munch on because Shia Labeouf was proclaiming “Free Comic Book Day!” and handing out a little white booklet with a loud orange bang that read: “Stale N Mate”

I finished reading it a few hours ago. Very refreshing. Like a Mint Cigarette.

Instead of Drinko De mayo for Cinco De Mayo I like to Thinko De mayo. So I did some reading and a lot of writing. I hope Shia showered so he won’t be Stinko De Mayo!

It is actually very engaging. One of those intriguing stories that you do not put down easily. Instead, you read all the way to the end.

It is not very long anyway. And you could easily read it in six minutes and thirteen seconds. But some things no matter how short, are unreadable.

It is a great story about a death row inmate who may have a shot at overturning his death sentence just moments before his execution because of a stalemate caused by some legal formalities.

I would advise getting a copy if you can. I was thrilled to have my own copy signed by Shia. Although his autograph looks like the cryptic symbols he was scribbling in the Transformers Movie –  Revenge of the Fallen

I have always been a big fan of his since the first time that I saw him on screen. I enjoy the spastic character he brings into some of his roles.

So I forgive him for smelling like he just jogged to Studio City from his book signing at Meltdown Comics for Free Comic Book Day, 2013.

The young man’s got a lot of talent I did not know about. I even let him hold my hand.
