Jason Yorrick: Martial Arts Conditioning, Kickboxing and Sparring at Meridian’s Bodies in Motion

By Hakeem Alexander

(
Exercising Your Mind) I have worked with Jason Yorrick now for over five years. In that time, I have had the opportunity to train with him under several different circumstances and a variety of conditions. Not only is Jason a physical specimen who practices what he teaches, he is also a source of valuable insights when you ask the right questions. With a great sense of humor combined with a take no prisoners training methodology, Jason offers the best kickboxing classes you could ever hope to participate in.

Studying nearly ten years of Ninjitsu with the Bujinkan, a Black Belt in Wing Chun, and practice in several other martial arts disciplines combined with a passionate self-awareness; Jason is armed with outstanding experience, knowledge and sharply honed intuition. These are just a sample of the skills he brings forward to instruct a safe, efficient, goal-oriented practice that proves itself with remarkable results.

If you are interested in Martial Arts Conditioning, Kickboxing techniques, self-defense, or just a good old heart-pumping workout, this is it! Based on my personal experience taking his class, sometimes twice a day and four to five times a week, I highly recommend this engaging and intense training session!

Invigorating, original, exciting and electrifying. These are just a few words that come to mind when thinking of Jason Yorrick’s kickboxing classes at Meridian’s Bodies in Motion. With an energy charged soundtrack guiding your pulse, Jason kicks off the training session with a thorough warm-up routine that will have your sweat flowing within five minutes. This includes active and dynamic movements that set your body’s system into a ready for action mode, at a gradually increasing pace. You will also find essential elements combined and developed from his hands on work as a professional private fitness trainer.

After a bit of light running, side-stepping, stance shuffling, reverse jogging, and knee lifts, the stage is set. Utilizing a set of simple calisthenics and flexibility exercises, a smooth transition is made into the Martial Arts Conditioning. By the time this point has arrived, the rush in your muscles already tell you the simple warm-up was definitely adequate. To mix things up a bit, and following the best in interval training research, the action is integrated with plenty of breaks, that include walking and helpful reminders on proper breathing technique.

But don’t get too cozy, the rest is just enough…

A round of punches. A round of kicks. A round of kickboxing. Then, there is no telling what will happen next. Certainly each class is just as appealing as the one before since each set of combinations and techniques is never the same. Using movements from his experience in competition, tactical combat training, weapons, and stunt work, the class is guided through various practical exercises.

Watch out! You could be singled out for a one-on-one light-sparring session, just to make sure you’ve been paying attention. This is my favorite part! Jason puts on his gloves and goes head to head with you to keep you on your toes, lasting one minute each, one or two bouts with every person willing to face off.

With just two weeks of consistent training, I have observed measurable gains in my speed, agility, defense, and “strike-zone” control.
With expert precision, Jason puts you in the center of a storm of acutely balanced offensive and defensive maneuvers, leaving you no option but to move and improve. This rich combination of skills development has carried over into my own personal combat arsenal and conditioning program.

For one of the top workout experiences to be found anywhere, martial arts or otherwise; this is a must for anyone looking to improve their skills. As a complement to current combatives training, or a supplement to any athletic or fitness program, Jason Yorrick’s Martial Arts Conditioning, Kickboxing and Sparring at Meridian’s Bodies in Motion is an indispensable component.

At the completion of the session, rather than feeling drained and spent, you will feel inspired, energized, and with an unmistakable feeling that you have just made it through one of the best optimum performance conditioning workouts.

Soundtrack in class may include: Wu Tang, D-12, Linkin Park, Static-X, Eminem, Fort Minor, Alice in Chains and many others.
